EVERYBODY WEAR A MASK MUSIC VIDEO

With the opening of Hawaii to visitors from around the world, Kauai needs to stay vigilant and safe from Covid 19. Fifteen year old, Kauai High School sophomore, Kate Mie Nakamura and University of Hawaii graduate, Ryland Balbin of Hanamaulu co-produced an info music video, “Everybody Wear A Mask” as a public service announcement (PSA) for visitors and local people. Composed by Art Umezu, the song was recorded by Kauai singer, Daphne Sanchez on her CD, “We Are One World” which was released in December 2020.

Videographers Nakamura and Balbin collaborated with Jeffrey Callejo, instructor for Kauai Line Dance Group who choreographed the dance motion and selected 9 dancers to be in the video. Also, Nakamura who dances with Aloha Dance Studio in Lihue asked three of her dance mates to be part of the video. Joseph Balbin filmed the Aloha Dance Studio segment.

Shot on location at the Kauai Bowling Center, Aloha Dance Studio and Kilohana Plantation in Puhi, Nakamura and Balbin with high school artist, Edilyn Marquez recently collaborated on two other music projects, “We Are One World”, dedicated to frontline health workers during the pandemic and “Sunrise Iwaki”, dedicated to victims of 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Iwaki City, Kauai’s sister city in Japan.

Nakamura studies digital and broadcast media technology with Mrs. Leah Aiwohi at Kauai High School and Balbin, a 2012 KHS graduate, studied digital creative media in Los Angeles and received his degree in Studio Photography at UH-Manoa.

Kauai Line Dance Group dancers include Rose Bettencourt; Pua Chin; Paula Chihara; Katelyn Colipano; Rich Colipano; Shyla Colipano; Diane Rodriguez; Flo Tazaki; Donna Smith and Callejo. Aloha Dance Studio members include Leigh Idica; Jannelle Puplava; Keisha Suga and Nakamura.
